Sterling Moore: A Wakesurfing Journey

Sterling Moore, a dedicated wakesurfer from Texas, shares her passion for the sport and how she got started. Discover her favorite tricks, training regimen, and the incredible people who have influenced her journey.

What is your favorite thing about wakesurfing? My favorite thing about wakesurfing is all the amazing talented people you meet from all over the world that have the same passion for wakesurfing.

What board are you surfing and why? I am surfing the  Bam from Pure Wakesurf, because it has the most control and smooth riding out of any board I have ever tried. And the people at Pure Wakesurf are just some of the most supportive, and all around great people alive.

Who are your biggest influences in the sport? To name a few... Jake Breedlove, Ashley Kidd, Madison Fussell, Joey Harris, Tripp Allen, Cassidy Gale, and so many more.

What are your biggest strengths/weaknesses as a wakesurfer? My biggest strength I think is having easy access to a boat and a flexible schedule where I can go and surf. My biggest weakness is definitely my stubbornness. Sometimes I feel like I can figure it out myself but I forget that I can accept help from those around me.

What is your favorite trick? My favorite trick to do is an air or a snap, but my favorite trick to watch is a hail mary or a big spin.

What is your training regimen like? Do you surf all year or seasonal? Going with four surfers we’ll each surf for 45 minutes to an hour, and take a break at lunch as we get up really early to surf. We typically surf all year but take a break around January and February.

If you could wakesurf anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? The Caribbean for sure. I went to the BVI a few summers ago and fell in love with everything there and being able to wakesurf there would be a dream come true.

Who do you surf with? I surf with my Dad and some close friends of mine Kahla and Paolo. My mom doesn’t surf but she is always there with our little dog Emily.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out? If you are wanting to get really good I would tell them that there is always someone better/ more advanced than you, so listen to what they have to say and use their advice. You don’t have to figure out everything yourself.

What is your favorite wakesurfing memory? To pick one memory is tough but when I went to my first competition with a broken wrist and placed 2nd after meeting Kahla and Paolo is a favorite. Then there is when I first dropped the rope. And then Pure Fam Jam in Georgia when I met everyone on the Pure team.

What would your wakesurfing superhero name be? I have no idea but any boat brand could be a superhero name,Centurion, Mastercraft, Nautique, Supra etc., etc.

If you could have any celebrity join you for a wakesurf session, who would it be and why? Any pro ocean surfer, like Carrissa Moore, Bethany Hamilton, or Kelly Slater or Kai Lenny, just because they are some of the most talented people on the planet and they are amazing at surfing but what about wakesurfing? (They probably are)

What does being part of the Pure Wakesurf team mean to you? Everything, it means everything to me. I started surfing 2 years ago and didn't even know what wakesurfing was, and to now be on an actual wakesurfing team competing with now a family, that is the team, that I love dearly is mind blowing to say the least.
